MY IDEA

For my music video I will feature the song 'Kiss N Tell' by pop artist 'Ke$ha'. I have analysed three music videos that follow the genre 'pop', as well as an existing video by 'Ke$ha'. This analysis helped me to understand the conventions of the pop genre. These were as follows: The video needs to use a variety of bright colours, to attract the indended audience. In my video I will use yellow, which is used in Ke$ha's video 'Tik Tok'. I will do this as a textual reference; another convention of a music video. Music videos use other media texts as influence, and so I intend to do this too, using Ke$ha's other existing videos. My video also needs to be light hearted, compared to other music genres, such as rock or heavy metal, the video may be quite intense and scary, where as with this genre I will include fun elements. I am intending on doing this by using humour as part of my music video. I will include a dance routine in my music video, in order to continue following the codes and conventions. In order to make my routine relevent to the music and it's lyrics, I will interview my A level dance teacher to gain ideas on how to do this. I will video this interview then post it on my blog. The music video doesn't need a narrative, and so I have decided not to use one. This information also came from the results of my questionnaire. I asked ten people of various ages and genders a series of questions to find out what was expected from a pop video, the results are posted.
All of these features help to attract my audience. I will aim my music video at females, simply because I am using a female artist. Also the song is from a female's point of view, and so a female audience would be more able to connect with it. My female audience will age range from around 12 to 24, again because of the artist. My model, acting as 'Ke$ha' is within this age group and so again, the audience can easily connect with her. Because Ke$ha's music can often be controversial, an older generation may be put off by this, and so an older age group wouldn't find my song appealing. I will create 'emotional pleasure' for my audience, as I am creating it to make young females feel happy, and in an emotionally joyful mood.
The purpose of my music video is for the audience to watch it, and see the artist. My video will help to promote the artist and to gain a wider audience range.
In Ke$ha's videos the artist is presented as a rebel, with a 'typical teeage' attitude. Therefore I need to present my model in the same way in order to reflect the artist correctly. My model will wear black converse boots, with black leggings that have slits in. She will also be wearing sequin hot pants, and a black baggy top that has slits in. This will reveal a bright pink bra underneath too add colour. Her hair will be back combed, and she will wear a nose ring with heavy makeup. Within the video, her attitude will be presented by the way in which she is shouting at the camera and her facial expressions presented by the close up shots.
The genre of my music is POP! This means that i should follow the conventions that are stated on a previous post.
The narrative of my music video will be a mixture of performance and narrative. This is because it doesn't follow a linear narrative. The performance aspect will be my artist performing to the camera, through the use of close ups and extreme close ups, creating a mood for the audience. A wide range of camera shots will help to present the performance such as high and low angle shots, mid shots, medium close ups and close ups. I am including a dance routine, which is also part of the performance. It doesn't follow the traditional linear narrative that a film trailer would use (for example) but it uses a broken up narrative, as parts of the story will be shown between the performance clips.
Along side my video I need to produce two ancillary tasks, a website homepage for the artist, as well as a cover for it's release as part of a digipack. I will produce both the front cover, spine and back of the CD cover, as well as the inside and the actual CD itself, and for the website homepage design, I will produce it as a graphic on photoshop.
